Weather is the effect of mental causes. Severe weather is often caused by collective disturbed mortal thought manifested as dissension within a nation or between nations. It is the effect of general political upheaval. Nations that have never before experienced tornadoes have suddenly had regular occurrences of such disturbed weather, and it is suggested that this phenomena can be correlated to the timing of increased political tensions among the peoples of those nations.

Mrs. Eddy teaches us that sickness or disease is the result of upheaval in thought, and that the way to effect a cure is through an improved understanding that man is spiritual, not material, and that the one Mind is man’s Mind. Because this Mind is always expressing health, wholeness, peace, and correct activity, we too experience the same qualities in Life. Improved thought brings healing and freedom from both disease and severe weather.

We need to refuse to be a part of any collective mental upheaval by understanding that all men and women live in and express the one Mind. We do not seek a coming together of many mortal minds, but rather, the need is to understand the allness of the one Mind, and to claim the inherent harmony of all spiritual ideas which are held in God’s consciousness. This will bring healing of dissension in both our country and the world, as well as bringing more balance to disturbed weather patterns. Man cannot personally control the weather. He must recognize that God alone controls the weather, and that there is no bad weather in God’s kingdom.

Disturbed thinking of any type is the effect of animal magnetism trying to gain a foothold in thought. Animal magnetism is just a term in the dictionary and possesses no power or life except that which we give it by allowing it to present itself as false ideas such as bad weather. We have to stand up to aggressive mental suggestion and see that it has no power because all power belongs to omnipotent Mind. The one Mind comprises our thinking, and we have the power of this Mind to cast out the false claims of aggressive mental suggestion. God controls His universe and does so with complete harmony.

TAKING OFFENSE by Mary Baker Eddy

    There is immense wisdom in the old proverb, “He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty.” Hannah More said, “If I wished to punish my enemy, I should
make him hate somebody.”
    To punish ourselves for others’ faults, is superlative folly. The mental arrow shot from another’s bow is practically harmless, unless our own thought barbs it. It is our pride that makes another’s criticism rankle, our self-will that makes another’s deed offensive, our egotism that feels hurt by another’s self-assertion. Well may we feel wounded by our own faults; but we can hardly afford to be miserable for the faults of others.
    A courtier told Constantine that a mob had broken the head of his statue with stones. The emperor lifted his hands to his head, saying: “It is very surprising, but
I don’t feel hurt in the least.”
    We should remember that the world is wide; that there are a thousand million different human wills, opinions, ambitions, tastes, and loves; that each person has a different history, constitution, culture, character, from all the rest; that human life is the work, the play, the ceaseless action and reaction upon each other of these different atoms. Then, we should go forth into life with the smallest expectations, but with the largest patience; with a keen relish for and appreciation of everything beautiful, great, and good, but with a temper so genial that the friction of the world shall not wear upon our sensibilities; with an equanimity so settled that no passing breath nor accidental disturbance shall agitate or ruffle it; with a charity broad enough to cover the whole world’s evil, and sweet enough to neutralize what is bitter in it, — determined not to be offended when no wrong is meant, nor
even when it is, unless the offense be against God.
    Nothing short of our own errors should offend us. He who can wilfully attempt to injure another, is an object
of pity rather than of resentment; while it is a question in my mind, whether there is enough of a flatterer, a fool, or a liar, to offend a whole-souled woman.

                                           Mary Baker Eddy in her book
                                           Miscellaneous Writings p. 223

COMFORT YE MY PEOPLE
“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.”  (Ps. 91:1-4).

I just love reading this message of comfort! Nothing has the power to make one feel so protected, so comforted, so loved and cared for. We can never ever be separated from the comfort of our Father because we exist as one with Him. We are His oneness expressed. And God is not a respecter of persons. He loves each of us unconditionally and equally. We don’t have to earn that love; we are always worthy of it. After all, we are what God is reflecting on, what He is thinking...and our Creator never sees one of His ideas as being unworthy of His comfort or love. He only beholds us as His own perfection.

Any mortal history one may have had which wasn’t Christlike is totally unknown to God. And only what God knows is real. The third Tenet of Christian Science, in The Christian Science Manual, tells us..."We acknowledge God's forgiveness of sin in the destruction of sin and the spiritual understanding that casts out evil as unreal. But the belief in sin is punished so long as the belief lasts." So as soon as unChristlike behavior is repented of and reformation has taken place, we realize that our purity as a child of God has never been tarnished. This pureness opens the door for us to experience the love and comfort which God has never ceased to anoint us with.

 “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”  (Ps. 23).

The I AM not only knows nothing but Itself but can express nothing but Itself,--can experience nothing but Itself, can feel nothing but that which is its own nature,--even perpetual harmony. Nothing but good is happening. Nothing is going on but God--Principle and its idea, Father, Mother and child--living as flawless security. This I, which is the whole of Being, the I or Us, in which you are included, is forever experiencing and acclaiming its own serenity, beauty, completeness, security, bounty, wholeness. I AM is the whole of Being experiencing the fulness of infinite good, and not another thing is going on, not another thing is being experienced.

I looked out of my office window this morning and gazed upon a beautiful Magnolia blossom on the little tree outside. Christian Science teaches us that when we spiritualize our concept of beauty and no longer see beauty as residing in the flower, the matter representative of beauty lasts and lasts because the spiritual idea of beautify is eternal. The result of such thinking is that flowers may last for weeks instead of days.
This same metaphysical concept is true of love...and supply...and success in business...and relationships with others. When we grasp that these attributes reside in the one consciousness, our consciousness because it is God’s consciousness, they are forever ours. We don’t assign these gifts to a companion, to money, to jobs, or to the personalities of others. Because God is infinite, all good qualities and ideas which you could ever humanly conceive of are infinite also, and ever-present. So gaze out on something beautiful in God’s creation today and understand that it’s origin and beauty are in God, not the object. And dwell on its permanence.

AGING: GROWING IN UNDERSTANDING

An erroneous concept which mortals often seem to entertain is that there is a limited amount of good vision, perfect hearing, unrestricted mobility, clear thinking, even life itself! And that these will eventually be used up, leaving man a helpless victim of a material world. The depletion of these faculties is based squarely on the belief of time. Mortals blindly accept the notion that time is real, and belongs to God.

I prefer to think of time as if someone woke up one morning and announced, “Let there be time...and clocks...and hurriedness...and stress.” What a liar! If God didn’t make it, it isn’t true. God’s creation is eternal. And eternity doesn’t mean endless time. It means the elimination of time. God never created time.

So if time doesn’t exist, there can be no deterioration of faculties or abilities based on such a lie. “The measurement of life by solar years robs youth and gives ugliness to age. The radiant sun of virtue and truth coexists with being. Manhood is its eternal noon, undimmed by a declining sun.”   (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy p. 246:12)

Give of your heart's rich overflow!

I have a friend who constantly gives of her heart's rich overflow. And she readily acknowledges this giving as having its source in Love. She feels so blessed that she just has to share it with others. If someone greets her and asks how she is, her response will be a hearty, "I'm as wonderful as you are!" And if that person comments further, my friend tells him or her, "Well, the same Father who blesses me
 blesses you, so if I'm wonderful, YOU must be wonderful too!

What a joyful way to share God's love! It attracts people like bears to honey, and they come seeking the Truth. Try it! You'll be blessed right along with them!

Hymn 139 from The Christian Science Hymnal
SURREY by HENRY CAREY

I walk with Love along the way, And O, it is a holy day;
No more I suffer cruel fear, I feel God’s presence with me here;
The joy that none can take away Is mine; I walk with Love today.

Who walks with Love along the way, Shall talk with Love and Love obey;
God’s healing truth is free to all, Our Father answers every call;
’Tis He dispels the clouds of gray That all may walk with Love today.

Come, walk with Love along the way, Let childlike trust be yours today;
Uplift your thought, with courage go, Give of your heart’s rich overflow,
And peace shall crown your joy-filled day. Come, walk with Love along the way.

In praying for those affected by the attacks at the Boston Marathon, let us hold fast to the truth that the love of God is reaching out and surrounding all involved...from the victims to their families and friends, and yes, even to those responsible for the attacks. Divine Love is ever present, comforting, giving strength, and guiding.

Mary Baker Eddy tells us on page 340 of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,

"One infinite God, good, unifies men and nations; constitutes the brotherhood of man; ends wars; fulfils the Scripture, "Love thy neighbor as thyself;" annihilates pagan and Christian idolatry, — whatever is wrong in social, civil, criminal, political, and religious codes; equalizes the sexes; annuls the curse on man, and leaves nothing that can sin, suffer, be punished or destroyed."

As we more clearly understand the allness of God, good, and the nothingness of evil, we aid in the elimination of such egregious acts. Let's fill our thought with gratitude for God's love and not be overwhelmed by media coverage proclaiming that error has any power whatsoever to destroy God's perfect kingdom.

There is a belief that many suffer from allergies in springtime. Whatever a man believes to be true will become his reality. But one need not suffer from a false belief. God is the only creator, and as The Bible tells us in Genesis 1:31, all that He made was “very good.” What then is true...what God tells us, or what we are educated to believe in?

Sin, sickness, and death are the result of educated belief. But God is omnipotent Mind, the only power there is. And He never makes His beloved child to suffer. Declare that there is no power opposed to God and claim your freedom from allergies. God created the ideas of beautiful flowers and budding trees. He made them for man to enjoy, not suffer from. Be free!

"Our Master treated error through Mind. He never enjoined obedience to the laws of nature, if by these are meant laws of matter, nor did he use drugs. There is a law of God applicable to healing, and it is a spiritual law instead of material.

God made man free.

Every law of matter or the body, supposed to govern man, is rendered null and void by the law of Life, God. Ignorant of our God-given rights, we submit to unjust decrees, and the bias of education enforces this slavery. Be no more willing to suffer the illusion that you are sick or that some disease is developing in the system, than you are to yield to a sinful temptation on the ground that sin has its necessities."

Mark 16: 17-19
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God."

Psalms 139: 14, 17, 18

"I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are they works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
How precious also are they thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand:"
